Xi Jinping stresses boundless cooperation with Putin

Xi Jinping reaffirms close cooperation with Putin in a phone call on the third anniversary of the Ukraine war.

Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed the close cooperation between the two countries in a phone call on Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, NBC reported, citing official Chinese media. The talks coincided with the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The talks came as U.S. President Donald Trump pressed for a swift end to the war in Ukraine, and the United States has sought to break the friendship and cooperation that had recently developed between Xi Jinping and Putin in order to focus on China in its economic competition with China.

The meeting appeared to be designed to eliminate that possibility, with Putin and Xi Jinping emphasizing the long-term and stable nature of their alliance and not allowing any third party to influence their internal relations.

According to an official report published in Chinese media, Xi Jinping said: “China-Russia relations have strong internal momentum and special strategic value, are not biased against any third party, and are not influenced by any third party. China and Russia have a long-term development strategy and foreign policy, and the two countries are inseparable good neighbors.”

According to the report, Russia is currently fighting NATO-backed Ukrainian troops, while China is facing economic pressure under the joint action of the United States, and the two sides are increasingly finding geopolitical common ground. In recent years, Xi Jinping has told Putin that the two countries have an opportunity to promote a change that has not been seen in a century, which many analysts believe is a way to challenge the US-led world order.

It is reported that Putin announced the establishment of unlimited strategic cooperation between China and Russia before sending tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine in February 2022. Xi Jinping has met with Putin more than 40 times in the past decade.
