RELIGIOUS OPPRESSION IN EAST TURKISTAN
Mustafa Yeneroğlu evaluated ETHR’s newly published ‘2024 Religious Oppression in East Turkistan Report’ as follows:
“The report covers the serious human rights violations, ethnic and religious discrimination, and hostility that the Chinese government has been implementing against Uyghur Turks and other Muslim minorities, especially in recent years, in East Turkistan, a region with rich cultural and religious diversity throughout history. It explains with numerous examples how the religious identities and cultural heritage of Muslim communities are being destroyed through methods such as the destruction of mosques, the prohibition of religious education, and the confiscation of religious books, especially the Quran, within the scope of the oppression implemented by the Chinese state against Muslims under the name of ‘fighting against extremism and terrorism’.”
Yeneroğlu also said, “I hope that valuable studies such as these published in different languages will increase the awareness of the international community against the oppression and encourage a stronger stance against the serious human rights violations in the region.”
