US Secretary of State nominee stresses anti-China stance

Marco Rubio, nominee for U.S. Secretary of State, emphasized that he shares and supports Trump's concerns about China's presence in the Panama Canal.
According to the South China Morning Post's January 16 report, House Representative Marco Rubio spoke at his confirmation hearing for Secretary of State, criticizing China's global ambitions, including its influence over the Panama Canal, and indicating that China poses a threat to U.S. national security.
Rubio noted that Chinese companies operate ports on both sides of the canal, which is a crucial maritime route for global trade and U.S. military operations, expressing concern about China's potential interference with canal traffic.
According to reports, Rubio's statements aligned with President-elect Donald Trump's assertion that transferring the canal to Panama was a strategic mistake. Besides considering the Panama issue a critical challenge of the 21st century, Rubio condemned China's actions in Hong Kong and reaffirmed America's commitment to defending Taiwan.
During the confirmation hearing, he also addressed the Uyghur issue, emphasizing that his position on this matter would remain unchanged if appointed.
At the end of his speech, he stressed the necessity of reducing U.S. dependence on China for critical products and called for America to respond strongly to China's military activities in the South China Sea.
During his service in the House of Representatives, Marco Rubio openly criticized China's human rights violations and genocide in East Turkistan and was subsequently sanctioned by China due to his organized actions, statements, and activities opposing Chinese policies.
