US: Kissinger's visit to China is a 'disaster'

Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger met with Communist Party leader Xi Jinping during his visit to Beijing, the capital of China. Noting that the Chinese people attach importance to friendship, Xi said, "We will never forget our old friends, nor the historical contributions you made to the development of China-US relations and friendship between the two peoples."

During his visit to China, Henry Kissinger also met with senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi and Defense Minister Li Shangfu.

The White House commented on the visit of the former National Security Adviser to the White House and US Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, that "it is unfortunate that a civilian was able to meet with the Chinese Minister of Defense and has contacts that the United States does not have."

White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby assessed Kissinger's visit to China at his daily briefing. "It is unfortunate that a civilian was able to meet with the Chinese defense minister and get access to communications that the United States does not have," Kirby said.

The Biden administration wants to hear about Kissinger's experiences.

Regarding Chinese Defense Minister Li Changfu's meeting with Kissinger while he did not meet with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Kirby said: "This is an issue we want to solve. That's why we're trying to reopen military lines of communication. Because when there is no such contact and tension and miscalculation are high, the stakes also increase." When Kissinger returned, Kirby noted, the Biden administration wanted to hear about his experiences.
