US adds 15 companies linked to China and Russia to sanctions list

The United States has expanded sanctions targeting Russia, adding 15 companies with ties to China and Russia to its sanctions list.
According to Voice of America, on January 15, the U.S. Treasury Department announced an expansion of sanctions against companies and organizations supporting Russia's war in Ukraine, reaffirming approximately 100 entities as sanctions targets and implementing new sanctions against 15 additional companies.
A senior Treasury Department official stated that under the sanctions regime, companies with significant trade relationships with Russian defense industry sectors would face the risk of sanctions. The official who disclosed this information remained anonymous.
The official also indicated that Congress must be notified for these sanctions to be lifted. These measures could make it more difficult for a future Republican administration under Donald Trump to adjust or modify the sanctions without drawing attention.
According to reports, the Chinese companies added to the U.S. sanctions list include: Anhui Hongsheng International Trading Co., Ltd., Qingyuan Fuofeng Leda Supply Chain Service Co., Ltd., Heilongjiang Shunsheng Economic and Trade Development Co., Ltd., Qingdao Heji Trading Service Co., Ltd., the so-called "Xinjiang" Finance Import-Export Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Xianghe Trading Co., Ltd., Shaanxi Hongrun Jinhua Trading Co., Ltd., Fujian Xinfuwang International Trading Co., Ltd., and Jilin Province Shunda Trading Co., Ltd.
