Bayraktar TB2, which attracted attention with its outstanding success first in Syria and Libya and then in Azerbaijan, became one of the most powerful weapons of the Kiev administration in the Ukraine war.
In addition to the countries of the Balkans and Central Europe, the last buyers of Bayraktar TB2s, which were also supplied to Africa, were the Gulf countries.
U.S.-based Business Insider wrote about Turkish UAVs and the growing interest in this weapon system in the Arab world.
"How did Saudi Arabia and the UAE stop worrying and learn to love Turkey's Bayraktar UAVs?" headlined Business Insider, which appeared before its readers and included the following statements in its report:
"Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates can't seem to get enough of Turkey's indigenous military drones. Both countries have signed important multibillion-dollar agreements for Turkish Bayraktar unmanned aerial vehicles in recent months."
"The agreements reflect the growing interest in Turkish-made equipment among the Gulf states and are signs of a growing desire in recent years to sell arms to Turkey's neighbors in the Middle East, despite differences on other issues in the region," the American site said, recalling that a record agreement was signed as part of President Erdogan's visit to Riyadh.
Underlining that the agreement was signed a month after Kuwait became the 28th country to order TB2, Business Insider said, "The agreements show that the leading Arab Gulf countries are rapidly becoming the largest customers of Turkish drones in just a few years."
The US-based site states that Gulf countries have previously purchased Chinese-made UAVs.
"During the decade preceding these enormous agreements, the Saudis and the United Arab Emirates bought mainly Chinese drones, most notably the Wing Loong II, which saw combat in Yemen and Libya. But Chinese-made UAVs have lost their appeal in the face of TB2's rapid rise."
