Third investigation into Chinese defense minister

The Financial Times reported, citing US sources, that Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun is under investigation for alleged corruption. Defense Minister Dong Jun's two predecessors had also been investigated for corruption.
If confirmed, Dong would be the third defense minister investigated for corruption in an operation that appears to be a broader anti-corruption campaign within the upper echelons of the Chinese military, following Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu.
The newspaper quoted current and former US officials close to the matter as saying that Chinese President Xi Jinping is conducting "a series of investigations" into the People's Liberation Army (PLA), though the specific corruption allegations against Dong remain unclear.
The Chinese embassy in Washington refused to comment on the news.
3 MINISTERS WAS REMOVED IN SUCCESSION
Dong, a former admiral and commander of the Chinese Navy, was appointed as national defense minister in December 2023, replacing Li Shangfu, who was removed in October 2023.
Li Shangfu was removed from his position last October, while his predecessor Wei Fenghe was also expelled from the Chinese Communist Party and removed from his post after being accused of corruption.
This report highlights the ongoing anti-corruption campaign within the Chinese military leadership, with three consecutive defense ministers now being investigated or removed under Xi Jinping's administration.
