Yesterday, The US Department of State approved the sale of $500 million of F-16 infrared search and tracking systems and related equipment to Taiwan.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wang Wenbin reacted, stating that the US should immediately stop its arms sales to Taiwan.
Wang Wenbin, speaking at a press conference in Beijing, emphasized that the US arms sales to Taiwan seriously violated the One-China principle and the three joint declarations signed between China and the United States, especially the August 17 Declaration.
"Sending Wrong Signals to Separatists"
"Wang Wenbin stated that such actions seriously violate international law and fundamental norms of international relations, seriously undermine China's sovereignty and security interests, and seriously harm peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The US is sending wrong signals to the so-called 'Taiwan independence' forces," said the spokesman.
He emphasized that the US should immediately halt its plans for arms sales to Taiwan, cut off military ties with Taiwan, cease arming Taiwan, and avoid causing further harm to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. He also stated that China will take strong measures to safeguard its sovereignty and security interests.
In late July 2023, US President Joe Biden announced that the US military would provide military assistance to Taiwan worth $345 million, including defense materials as well as military training and education.
