The United States and the European Union plan to support railway initiatives in African countries against China. According to reports from Nikkei Asia on October 11, it is mentioned that the United States and its European allies plan to support the construction of international railways by African countries. This is seen as a step against the so-called Chinese trade plan "One Belt, One Road."
The United States and the European Union plan to invest in and develop this railway initiative, known as the "Lobito Corridor Project," while the railways involved are considered a vital trade link connecting the port of Lobito in Angola to Zambia and the Congo. The goal is to reduce dependence on China.
Furthermore, since both Zambia and the Congo have mineral resources, the significance of this move is that it allows the United States and the European Union to reduce their reliance on China in crucial mines and enhance their supply chains.
The "Lobito Corridor Project" was presented as the first project under the Global Infrastructure Partnership and Investment for infrastructure development in developing countries.
