The Voice of America reported on February 9 that the Philippines has decided to buy and deploy the Indian-made BrahMos supersonic missile to deal with the problems and threats caused by China's military operations in the South China Sea.
Samir Kamat, head of India's National Defense Research and Development Organization, said the BrahMos missile will be delivered to the Philippines next month.
Observers said the BrahMos missile, named after India's Brahmaputra River and Russia's Moscow River, will strengthen the Philippine Navy's ability to defend its sovereignty in the region. The missile's power will ensure the safety of the Philippines, which has the longest secure coastal border in the world.
Philippine officials have already confirmed that the missile will be deployed, and National Security Council spokesman Jonathan Malaya said: "The Philippines will enter the supersonic era before the end of the first quarter of 2024."
Some analysts and experts said that the deployment of these missiles will change the regional situation and pose a threat to China. The missile system will not only increase the Philippine military's ability to deal with threats, but will also send a strong signal to its rivals in the defense of territorial sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea.
