The European Union has passed sanctions against other countries for economic corruption, suggesting that these measures are aimed at China.
According to the news of the French international newspaper, after more than a year of negotiations, on June 6, the EU took measures to protect the 27 EU member states from economic coercion by third countries. The sanctions are aimed at deterring other countries from using economic threats to put pressure on EU member states.
The report shows that the EU's anti-coercion measures have been officially approved by the European Council and the European Parliament and will enter into force this autumn. The main purpose of this measure is to take revenge on third countries that participated in economic coercion by freezing imports of goods to the EU, restricting the sale of certain products on the EU market, restricting investment. However, this procedure will be carried out only after the implementation of coordination and organization.
It is reported that the EU's anti-coercion measures will be applied to the trade dispute between Lithuania and China. When Lithuania allowed Taiwan to open a representative office in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius in July 2022, China used this as an excuse to ban the import of Lithuanian products. The European Union has filed a complaint against China at the WTO, and the case is currently pending.
