The demolition of the statue of Mahmud al-Kashgari and Husayin Tajalli has been confirmed

According to the Norwegian Uyghur Yar Foundation, not only the lives of Uyghur people were affected in the 2017 massacre, but also the statues of famous people from Uyghur history were targeted. According to the Uyghur Yar Foundation, the statues of Mahmud Kashgiri in Kashgar, the statue of Maulana Husayn Tajalli in Khaggi, and Mullah Musa Sairami in Aksu were all demolished in 2018.
We called the relevant authorities in Kashgar to clarify the accuracy of this information. An official of the Culture and Tourism Bureau of Old Town County who received our call confirmed that the Mahmud Kashgri statue had been removed. An officer in charge of culture and tourism affairs of the Kashgar Police Department also confirmed that the statue of Mahmud Kashgiri was torn down.
Researcher Abdur Wali Ayup said that he was not surprised when he heard that the statue had been destroyed. He said that the valuable writings of the Uyghur Peshwas show their influence on the educational level of society, while the statues have the role of influencing, reminding, and creating examples for all people from 7 to 70 years old; Therefore, the Chinese authorities aim to eradicate the Uyghur culture from its roots and completely by destroying these statues.
An officer of the Qaylik County Police Department revealed that the Maulana Hussain Tajalli statue in the Qaylik National Medical Hospital compound was torn down. The officer also claimed that a policeman known as "Mei Jingguan" was responsible for the statue's demolition.
Emphasizing that each of the Uyghur Peshwas has its own place in Uyghur history and its own influence on Uyghur society, Abdul Wali Ayup promotes that Mahmud Kashgiri drew and showed a mountain-like border between Uyghur and Chinese culture through the "Divine of Turkish Languages.". It is this impenetrable border, he says, that has deeply troubled Chinese authorities who have been worried about their "national integrity," that is, the future of the colonial regime.
