Activists Criticize Consular Delegation Visit to East Turkistan as Beijing's "Propaganda Show"

A delegation of foreign consuls general in China recently visited East Turkistan under the organization of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But activists have criticized the move as little more than a "public relations" campaign by China over its controversial policies in the region to improve its image and win over foreign governments.
According to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a delegation of 14 consul generals from Brazil, Indonesia and other countries visited East Turkistan. During the visit from April 24 to 28, members of the delegation met with East Turkistan Party Secretary Ma Xingrui, Strategic planning and achievements in the region are discussed.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “The members of the delegation stated that East Turkistan’s multicultural integration and development, and the people’s life is stable and peaceful, which is completely different from some Western media reports...We are willing to continue to promote the deepening of cooperation between the host country and East Turkistan under the framework of the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’. Dolkun Isa, president of the World Uyghur Congress, criticized the visit as Chinese propaganda aimed at convincing the international diplomatic community that there are no human rights violations in East Turkistan .
Aisha said the visit was an attempt to whitewash the genocide and crimes against humanity committed by the Chinese government against Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities in the region.
