In a report published by the American technology giant Microsoft, it was reported that a hacker group suspected of being connected to China targeted dozens of government institutions in Taiwan for espionage purposes.
The hacker group known as "Flax Typhoon", fueled by the Chinese communist Party (CCP) regime, is targeting Taiwan's government agencies, key manufacturing sectors, and information technology organizations from mid-2021, and the growing trend of attacks, the Voice of America VOA reported on August 25. It is stated that a large amount of data was stolen.
Taiwan has long accused the Chinese regime of spying through cyber attacks. In a report published by the Israel Information Security Research Center in May this year, it is revealed that Taiwan was the first country to suffer cyber attacks in the first quarter of 2023.
ATTACKS ARE INCREASING EVERY DAY
According to the information, organizations and government institutions in Taiwan are attacked at least 3,250 times a week, and it was understood that these attacks increased by 24% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In a statement made by Microsoft, looking at the observed activities, hackers use a virus called "China Ring" to gain initial access and thus long-term access to the information of various institutions in Taiwan.
Microsoft said that while the hacker group is trying to spy on and maintain its presence online, it has not neglected to collect more data and that Taiwan institutions' ability to defend against the new advanced infiltration is weak. In addition, Microsoft stated that it is in contact with the officials targeted by the Chinese regime.
On the other hand, Chinese Hackers continue their various espionage activities in Taiwan as well as Southeast Asia, North America and Africa, and the victims of Chinese Hackers are increasing.
