At the October 17 UN Third Committee meeting, Pakistan made a statement on behalf of 72 Countries, opposing the agenda of the Chinese Regime's human rights violations in East Turkistan and considering the human rights violations as an "internal matter". On the other hand, British UN Representative James Kariuki, on behalf of 51 countries, reminded that the crimes against humanity committed by China in East Turkistan were revealed in the UN report with concrete evidence based on China's own resources and called on the Chinese regime to comply with the recommendations by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk in the report on China.
The International Union of East Turkistan Organization and the People of East Turkistan reject the statement presented by 72 mostly Muslim countries at the UN General Assembly and strongly condemn the attitude of these countries, which regard the genocide taking place in East Turkistan as China's "internal matter".
The joint statement submitted by Pakistan on behalf of 72 countries is a great shame for human rights and disregards universal human rights pledges. Human rights violations occurring anywhere in the world can never be considered an internal issue of that country. It is the common responsibility of every individual, society, institution and state to protect the most fundamental human rights. It is absolutely unacceptable for Muslim states to turn a blind eye to their fellow adherents who are being oppressed in order to support the oppressor. The Islamic World, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Muslim countries must act together with other countries to stop the Genocide in East Turkistan within the framework of international law.
Despite the undeniable fact that there is an ongoing genocide in East Turkistan, and It’s been documented with concrete evidence in the UN report, China’s atrocities have not been discussed yet in the UN General Assembly. The United Nations should adopt its policy recommendations to prevent human rights violations in East Turkistan and impose sanctions on China against large-scale violations. Countries' silence and double standards regarding human rights violations are unacceptable, partly because of economic reasons.
IUETO, as a representative international organization, calls on the members of the UN General Assembly and the UN Human Rights Council to act in line with the principles of justice and accountability and to reconsider this decision.
