The Chinese government continues its policy of genocide in East Turkistan. A 73-year-old Uyghur mother, who was diagnosed with brain cancer, was sent to a detention camp. Gülpiye Kazbek, who resides in Kazakhstan, revealed in an interview with Radio Free Asia (RFA) that her 73-year-old mother, Anarhan Kazbek, was sent to a detention camp by the Chinese government in July 2018, despite having brain cancer, and she was sentenced to 12 years in prison on baseless charges.
"I am very worried about the possibility of my mother dying in the detention camp," Gülpiye Kazbek said. "My mother had severe brain cancer. My sister, who still lives in East Turkistan, was saving money for my mother's surgery. However, the Chinese government sent my mother to a detention camp without any justification. Although my sister had provided the local government with medical reports confirming my mother's serious illness, Chinese officials did not accept any of the reports. I am extremely concerned about the possibility of my mother passing away in the detention camp," she added, highlighting once again the cruelty of China's actions.
Despite having brain cancer, my mom is being subjected to heavy labor in the detention camp
RFA reporters were able to obtain information about Anarhan Kazbek by reaching Baygol Women's Prison (detention camp) in the city of Gulja in East Turkistan. In a telephone conversation between RFA reporters and prison staff, it was learned that Anarhan Kazbek's condition had worsened.
Furthermore, it was reported that Anarhan Kazbek was forced to perform strenuous labor in the detention camp, even though she has brain cancer.
The daughter of Anarhan Kazbek, Gulpiye Kazbek, mentioned that she has been unable to get any information about her mother for years, and despite multiple attempts to contact the Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan, she has received no response. Gulpiye Kazbek is currently participating in protest actions in front of the Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan alongside other victims of detention camps in Kazakhstan.
