Palestine: disappointment from the US and turning to China

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki made remarks to members of the press in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said US President Joe Biden's administration was disappointing for them and that his country was "increasingly turning to China."

"It's been three years since President Biden's promises, but we've only seen financial support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and hospitals in East Jerusalem," Malki said.

Maliki expressed his country's "pessimism" about the US administration's position, adding that "the Biden administration was disappointing for them."

Al-Maliki noted that Palestine is "increasingly turning to China, which supports full membership in the United Nations"

"China wants to increase its presence in the Middle East not only economically but also politically. Many countries in the world also want to support China, which has become a very important global player."

Referring to the role of the United States in the peace process between Palestine and Israel, Maliki said: "There is no peace process in the Middle East. If this happens in the future, why not engage China along with other countries?" He spoke.
