Uyghurs living in Sweden, led by the Swedish Uyghur Education Association and the East Turkistan Sports and Culture Association, demonstrated in front of the Chinese Embassy in Stockholm on February 2 to mark the 28th anniversary of the Yingkir Genocide.
The demonstrators expressed their anger against China by chanting slogans such as "China, get out of East Turkistan" and "Independence for East Turkistan," and issued statements in Uyghur and Swedish.
The statement emphasized China's religious restrictions and political repression in East Turkistan, and also emphasized the arrest of women praying during Ramadan in Gulji on February 4, 1997, which led to a protest demonstration on February 5, and the fact that China suppressed this peaceful demonstration by shooting and spraying cold water in the bitter cold and martyring hundreds of Uyghurs.
The Chinese embassy staff was deeply disturbed by the anti-Chinese slogans and voices of the protesters, and as usual, they tried to disrupt the demonstration by loudly playing the Chinese mourning music through the loudspeakers installed against the Uyghur protesters.
In addition, Uyghurs around the world also commemorated this special day in different ways. On February 2, the Japan Uyghur Association organized a protest demonstration to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the genocide. Held in Shinjuku, Tokyo's most popular district, with the participation of Uyghurs and Japanese supporters of the Uyghurs, the demonstration had a particularly strong impact compared to previous years.
A genocide commemoration demonstration was also held in the Netherlands on February 5. The demonstration, organized in cooperation with the Dutch East Turkistan Organizations Alliance and the Yasha Uyghur Organization, commemorated the unyielding spirit of Uyghur youth on the day of the Genocide on February 5 and the brutal crimes of China.
In Kyrgyzstan, a gathering to commemorate the Yining Massacre was also held on February 5th, organized by the Kyrgyz Uyghur Union, and prayers were offered for the souls of the martyrs.
