US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, followed by an announcement of the government's new policy toward China and the region.
According to Voice of America, newly appointed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation on January 24 with Wang Yi, head of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and foreign minister. Rubio stressed during the conversation that the Trump administration will act in US-China relations in a way that advances US interests and puts the aspirations of the American people first.
Rubio also reaffirmed America's commitment to its allies in the region and expressed deep concern over China's continued coercive actions in Taiwan and the South China Sea.
Rubio also discussed bilateral cooperation and other issues of regional and global importance with Wang Yi.
