Japan: We are concerned about tensions in the South China Sea

Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya has expressed strong concerns about tensions in the South China Sea.
According to The Diplomat's January 16 report, Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, during his visit to the Philippines, expressed serious concerns about China's activities in the South China Sea. In his remarks, he emphasized that the international community should pay attention to tensions affecting regional peace and stability. Iwaya reiterated Japan's position against unilateral changes to the status quo and declared Japan's support for the Philippines on maritime security issues.
He also indicated plans to raise these issues in upcoming discussions with the incoming U.S. administration to ensure continued engagement in Asia.
In recent times, Japan and the Philippines have strengthened their security cooperation, including conducting joint military exercises and establishing mutual visit agreements.
