Japan wants to oppose China's expansion together with the island countries

Japan holds talks with Pacific island nations to discuss China's expansion and fight climate change.
According to VOA, the 10th "Pacific Islander Conference" was held in Tokyo from July 16 to 18. The meeting was attended by the leaders of Japan and 18 member countries of the Pacific Island States Forum.
Leaders of Pacific island nations and regions agreed on Thursday to play a greater role in development issues in the region and oppose any attempts at coercive action by Japan. Japan hopes to counter China's influence by strengthening ties.
In the joint statement, the leaders agreed to provide more assistance to Japan in areas such as climate change, maritime security and defense, and economic development, and emphasized the importance of a free and open international order based on international law, in addition to stating that peace and stability are the top priorities in this matter.
The statement also stated that the world firmly opposes attempts to unilaterally change the current situation through threats, force or coercion anywhere in the world, but China was not directly mentioned.
