The Japanese Ministry of Defense announced that a Chinese aircraft carrier entered Japan's territorial waters for the first time.
According to Voice of America, Japan's Defense Ministry announced on September 18 that a Chinese aircraft had entered Japan's territorial waters for the first time. After the incident, the Japanese government told the Chinese side that it was paying close attention to the incident and stressed that "this incident is absolutely unacceptable." The incident is the latest in a series of military actions between Japan and China that have further strained relations between the two sides.
According to the information released by the Japanese Ministry of Defense, China's Liaoning aircraft carrier and two accompanying destroyers operated for a short time in the early morning of September 18 in the border area of Yonaguni Island and Iriomote Island in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. This is the first time that Japan has confirmed that a Chinese aircraft operated in an area adjacent to Japanese territory.
Japanese Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshi Moriya said on the same day that Tokyo had expressed its displeasure to China. He also emphasized: "From the point of view of the security environment of Japan and the region, this incident is absolutely unacceptable."
Hiroshi Moriya said in a press conference: "We are closely monitoring the activities of Chinese naval vessels in our country's maritime areas. "We will take all possible measures to gather information, alert and monitor this matter."
China's provocative actions around Japan are increasing. On August 26, after a Chinese military aircraft invaded Japan's airspace, Japan immediately responded by sending warplanes. Japanese media emphasized that this is the first time China has entered Japanese airspace.
