Italy Begins Investigation and Restriction of DeepSeek

Italy's data protection authority has begun investigating and restricting China's artificial intelligence platform DeepSeek.

The Italian Data Protection Agency announced on January 30 that it has started investigating the Chinese company's DeepSeek AI chatbot and has banned it from processing Italian users' data.

The agency stated that it decided to take action after receiving completely inadequate responses from the Chinese company when asked for details about how personal data was being used.

In a statement, the authority announced that it had issued an immediate and urgent order prohibiting the Chinese companies Hangzhou DeepSeek and Beijing DeepSeek, which provide the DeepSeek chatbot service, from processing Italian users' data.

According to reports, this restriction measure was implemented to protect the data of users in Italy and was decided upon after the responses received from the relevant companies were deemed entirely insufficient.
