"Last week, the Kazakh parliament passed a new bill requiring Kazakh people of East Turkistan (Xinjiang) to obtain a'renunciation of their homeland' document from the Chinese regime before they can become citizens of Kazakhstan.
The lower house of the Kazakh parliament announced that it had passed the bill under the guise of an 'information exchange agreement between Kazakhstan and China's citizens,' specifically relating to hundreds of thousands of Kazakh Turks who are compelled to live under the severe oppression of China in East Turkistan.
According to this new law, Kazakhs of East Turkistan origin can still obtain Kazakh citizenship, but they will be required to provide evidence in the form of a 'renunciation of citizenship' document issued by Chinese government authorities. This development suggests that Kazakhstan may no longer be a safe haven for people from East Turkistan."
KAZAKHSTAN IS NOT A SAFE HAVEN
Officials from the Atajurt Association, a human rights organization in Kazakhstan, revealed in an interview with Radio Free Asia that, as part of the agreement signed between China and Kazakhstan, Kazakhs of East Turkistan origin living in Kazakhstan will not be allowed to criticize the Chinese regime or engage in activities against the Communist regime. Furthermore, they indicated that the Kazakh government could hand over East Turkistan people to China if requested."
Meanwhile, citizens who had previously relocated from East Turkistan to Kazakhstan in earlier years and now reside in Almaty told the Radio Free Asia reporter, 'The application procedure for Kazakh passports has become increasingly complex for residents of East Turkistan. Over the past 6-7 years, the Chinese Communist regime and Kazakh authorities have jointly mistreated Kazakhs in East Turkistan and obstructed Kazakhs from moving to Kazakhstan. Kazakhs in East Turkistan initially saw Kazakhstan as a safe haven. However, now, in order to even decide whether they can successfully obtain Kazakh citizenship, they will first be compelled to seek permission from China. If they decide to come, the majority of the Kazakh population, who are mostly herders, will have all their immovable property and assets in East Turkistan confiscated. Otherwise, the Chinese regime is unlikely to easily revoke their citizenship.'"
