International and Islamic Condemnations Against Thailand's Extradition of Uyghurs to China
International human rights organizations, Islamic organizations, and some government officials from various countries have issued statements protesting the Thai government's extradition of 40 Uyghurs who had been detained for decades to China.
According to the Anadolu Agency, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk issued a statement on February 27 regarding the Thai government's extradition of 40 Uyghurs to China. In the statement, he expressed deep concern about this situation, describing the Thai government's action as "a violation of international human rights law."
The statement also emphasized that people who should be protected must not be returned if there is a risk of torture, mistreatment, or other serious harm upon their return, and stressed that the Thai government's action violates this principle.
Human Rights Watch also issued a statement on this matter, noting that the Thai government violated both domestic and international laws by forcibly returning at least 40 Uyghurs, exposing them to the risk of torture and long-term imprisonment in China.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the Thai government's extradition of Uyghurs to China, saying: "Uyghurs face genocide there." He added in his statement: "We condemn in the strongest terms Thailand's forced return of at least 40 Uyghurs to China, where rights to justice are restricted and Uyghurs face persecution, forced labor, and torture."
The Indonesian youth branch of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation issued a statement on February 29 condemning the Thai government's extradition of detained Uyghurs to China and called on the international community to protect Uyghurs.
The Malaysian Muslim Youth Movement "ABIM" also expressed its deep regret over the Thai government's decision and concern about the fate of the Uyghurs. The statement also mentioned that this decision has raised serious concerns in the international community, as well as attracting widespread media attention.
The Malaysian Council of Islamic Organizations issued a statement on this matter, indicating that Thailand should not forcibly return Uyghurs to China, that it is necessary to act on the basis of human rights, and that the Uyghurs who have been returned will face severe persecution, detention, and even the death penalty.
