What are the election results?

For the first time in its history, Turkey is heading towards a second round of presidential elections, following a disputed first round.

Neither the current president, the candidate of the Justice and Development Party, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, nor his main rival, the leader of the Republican People's Party, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, managed to cross the 50% hurdle. Where the candidate with the highest votes is supposed to exceed 50% in order to be able to win the race in the first round, and this was not achieved in the entitlement of May 14. This led to the presidential elections heading to a second round on May 28.

These elections bear the utmost importance, as they come with Erdogan completing his twentieth year in power, amid economic inflation and a dispute over Ankara's foreign policy, and following the devastating earthquake that struck the country on February 6, killing more than 50,000 people. At the parliament level, the People's Alliance won the highest number of seats.
