New sanctions against China were announced at the G7 conference

Leaders of the Group of Seven, made up of the seven richest countries in the world, met in Hiroshima, Japan. New sanctions were announced at the summit, with China and Russia high on the agenda.

On the first day of the three-day summit, the leaders of the G7 countries, Germany, the United States of America, England, Italy, France, Japan, Canada and the European Union, agreed on new sanctions targeting Russia, technology, industrial equipment and various services.

Ukraine wants the F-16

At this year's G7 summit, the host Japanese leader, Kishida, invited eight additional guests. Australia, India, Brazil, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Comoros representing the African Union and the Cook Islands representing the Union of Pacific Islands participate in the summit. It is conceivable that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, who is expected to attend the summit in person, will try to persuade the leaders to give the F-16s.

Taiwan crisis on the table

Although Russia is in the spotlight, the search for a common policy on China is also on the leaders' agenda. While France and Germany are trying to create a softer language compared to the United States of America, Washington wants to follow a tougher path, especially with regard to the security of Taiwan, with the support of the countries in the region Japan, India and Australia. In addition to the Group of Seven, the anti-China Quartet meeting will also be held in Hiroshima. The leaders of the United States, Japan, Australia and India will discuss how to counter China's growing influence in the Asia-Pacific region.
