China has stepped up its overseas campaign through apps

A new report shows that China has used apps to obtain user data to boost its foreign campaigns.
According to a May 13 report by VOA, a new report on China's propaganda abroad has been released, which shows that the Chinese regime has used data obtained from apps such as Temu to study the psychological preferences, decision-making patterns, social backgrounds and demographics of target audiences abroad. The trend was analyzed to further strengthen the point and direction of foreign propaganda.
"The U.S. needs more comprehensive data protection laws to protect privacy and prevent data from flowing to China," experts said.
A new report released earlier this month by the Australian Institute for Strategic Policy Studies (ASPI) shows that China is using popular apps, games, and online platforms to obtain data on overseas users to understand the social preferences, behaviorsand decision-making patterns of target users. During this process, Chinese propaganda agencies and Chinese technology companies have close ties, and these companies and game app developers have received large amounts of subsidies from the Chinese regime.
A person interviewed by VOA said he first downloaded the Chinese Temu app a month ago. He saw that the price of home decoration on this shopping platform was very cheap compared to the price of online stores such as Amazon, and he ordered it. But when he opened the package three weeks later, he found that what he had bought was ten times smaller than he expected. It was also found that the goods did not have the characteristics as described and that the advertisement was completely false.
Frustrated, he immediately deleted the Temu app, but this measure failed to reduce the number of scam calls and text messages. He told the Voice of America: "After I downloaded the Chinese app, I received more scam calls than before. "My information has been exposed to countless people."
