India's economic corridor plan against China's so-called "Belt and Road" initiative is basically taking shape.
According to the South China Morning Post on March 8, India has intensified its diplomatic efforts and started to launch the construction of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). This is a large-scale infrastructure project aimed at changing international trade routes and countering China's "Belt and Road" initiative.
The India-Middle East-Europe Corridor will build a railway network, a maritime transport corridor, energy pipelines, and a digital data fiber-optic cable network linking South Asia, the Persian Gulf, and Europe, which will enhance India's connectivity and economic position.
Although the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor has encountered some difficulties after the construction plan was proposed at the G20 meeting due to the outbreak of the war in Gaza, the project is gradually gaining momentum. During the Indian Prime Minister's recent visit to Washington, India and the United States announced a plan to launch a new initiative with partners of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor within six months.
With concrete support for this plan from the G7, new trade opportunities will emerge, allowing India to strengthen its ties with the West, face competition from a rapidly growing China, and increase its global influence.
