HP wants to shift the production of millions of computers aimed at consumers and business users to Thailand and Mexico this year.
Gradual disintegration of the production of laptops
According to sources close to the matter, HP will shift part of its commercial production of laptops to Mexico and part of its production of consumer laptops to Thailand. In addition, it is planned to shift part of the production of laptops to Vietnam starting from next year.
HP, which produced 55.2 million computers last year, will produce about 2-5 million computers outside China this year.
China exploits Uyghurs for forced labor as slaves
The think tank released a report in 2020 estimating that more than 80,000 Uyghurs were transported for forced labor in factories across China, and that some were sent directly from Chinese concentration camps.
Last year, the United Nations concluded that China had committed "serious human rights violations" against Uyghurs and other Muslim communities, in particular arbitrary detentions that constitute crimes against humanity.
