The French Senate has approved a bill aimed at regulating the fashion industry, penalizing related companies, and restricting advertising, targeting the Chinese e-commerce company Shein.
According to Agence France-Presse, the bill was approved by the Chamber of Deputies in March of this year. A joint committee of senators and members of the Chamber of Deputies will meet in September to develop a unified document before the law is passed. The European Parliament must also be notified of the bill before it officially enters into force, to ensure its compatibility with EU law.
Currently, ordering and exchanging fashion products has become easier due to e-commerce, with large-scale exports to France via low-cost e-commerce platforms such as Shein, saturating the market.
Hiding behind the low-cost supplies of Chinese e-commerce platforms such as Shein and Timo are the bloody forced labor of Uyghurs, and calls and warnings about this issue continue.
