Europe fears being left out of Ukraine talks

Although NATO is currently emphasizing the alliance, Europe is concerned about being sidelined in Ukraine talks.

According to The New York Times' February 14 report, at the defense ministers' meeting in Brussels, European leaders expressed unified resolve in supporting Ukraine, despite concerns that the United States might work with Russia to end the war without including European countries.

European officials emphasized the importance of including Ukraine in peace talks and stressed the need to spend necessary time ensuring Ukraine does not remain in a weak position. However, concerns among NATO allies have grown, particularly about the possibility of the Trump administration prioritizing a different approach.

Recent evidence of this includes a phone conversation between Trump and Putin where neither Ukraine nor its president was mentioned. European Committee President Antonio Costa emphasized that for credible talks, both Ukraine and the European Union must participate, stressing that peace requires not only a ceasefire but also addressing Russia's long-term threat.
