Concerns and calls for the fate of more than 50 Uyghurs innocently detained in Thailand continue

The Christ International newspaper on January 18 warned the international community about the difficult situation of more than 50 Uyghurs still detained in Thailand. The news reports that many non-governmental organizations have revealed that Thailand has been detaining Uyghurs who fled China's authoritarian rule for more than 10 years, ignoring international law. The Uyghurs have been innocently detained since 2014, during which five Uyghurs died due to the poor conditions in the detention facilities.
It is reported that at the beginning of March this year, "The Fort", a non-governmental organization that protects the interests of Uyghurs in Bangkok, called to pay attention to the Uyghur issue at a conference.
According to statistics from Human Rights Watch (HRW), about 350 Uyghurs have been detained in Thailand since 2014. Among them, 172 women and children were relocated to Turkey in July 2015. 109 men were sent back to China under Chinese pressure and have since disappeared without a trace. Detention centers in Thailand are overcrowded and the conditions are very bad. More than 50 Uyghurs are still being detained.
According to Human Rights Watch, Thailand is currently caught between the United States and China. Thailand's immigration department has repeatedly rejected requests from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to help the Uyghurs and denied them access to legal representatives and relatives.
Thailand's National Human Rights Commission is said to be one of the few agencies with access to the detention centers, and it has called on Thai authorities to find a suitable third country for asylum seekers as soon as possible.
