"Veteran journalist and community leader Ghulam Pakhta, who dedicated his life to East Turkistan's independence and freedom struggle, passed away in New York on February 19 at the age of 95.
The deceased was born on April 15, 1930, in Kashgar to an educated family. His father held important positions in the East Turkistan Islamic Republic during 1933-1934. Ghulam Pakhta immigrated to Turkey in the early 1950s, completed his higher education, and worked in Turkey for a period. In 1955, he went to Germany for studies, and in subsequent years, he worked at Radio Free Europe and Voice of America radio stations, making significant contributions to conveying the voice of Uyghurs to the world, particularly to the Western world.
Uyghurs living in various parts of the world deeply mourned the death of the late Ghulam Pakhta, who was respected for his patriotism and nationalism, and expressed their condolences."
