The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) released two videos in Chinese a few days ago, encouraging Chinese officials to send classified information to the United States.
The videos depict two Chinese officials, through fictionalized accounts, who are frustrated with the Chinese regime and its corrupt system and are trying to escape the Chinese regime’s clutches by providing the CIA with information.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe said the purpose of releasing the videos was to provide useful information to decision-makers in the US government, and to convey to Chinese officials how to communicate secretly with the CIA and that the US government would provide security for Chinese officials and their families.
In a report released last month, he stressed that China is the top concern for the US Central Intelligence Agency, and that no power in history has posed such a challenge to the US.
The Central Intelligence Agency has stressed that it is confident that the videos can bypass Chinese internet censorship and reach their intended target, with one official saying: “If this method had not been effective, we would not have released such videos.”
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian responded to reporters’ questions on the matter yesterday and announced that the release of the videos was a blatant political provocation, and that China strongly opposes it and will counter any infiltration by foreign forces.
