China: Taiwan may lose autonomy rights if reunified by force

During the two conferences held in China, a representative of the National People's Congress claimed that if Taiwan is unified by military force, it may gain weaker autonomy rights.

According to the South China Morning Post on March 8, a member of the Chinese Law Commission warned that Taiwan may lose its autonomy rights if it is unified by military force.

He pointed out that peaceful unification may be more appropriate than the Hong Kong and Macau systems, and if Taiwan resists unification with China, it may be reduced to the level of a province with limited autonomy rights.

According to reports, although China claims to respect the Taiwan system, the opposition of the Taiwanese to the so-called "one country, two systems" system is strong. In particular, the opposition of the Taiwanese people to the plan of forced annexation by the Chinese system has increased due to the recent events in Hong Kong.
