China: Taiwan may lose autonomy rights if forcibly unified

During the conferences being held in China, a parliamentary representative claimed that if Taiwan is unified through military force, it may receive weaker autonomy rights.

According to the South China Morning Post on March 8, a member of the Chinese Law Committee warned that Taiwan could lose its special autonomy rights if it is unified by military force.

He indicated that peaceful unification might be more favorable compared to the Hong Kong and Macau systems, and if Taiwan resists unification with China, it could be reduced to the level of a province with limited autonomy rights.

According to reports, despite China's claims of respecting Taiwan's system, Taiwanese opposition to the so-called "one country, two systems" is strong. In particular, the Taiwanese people's opposition to the Chinese regime's forced annexation plan has increased due to recent events in Hong Kong.
