Independence Television, which has been continuously working to expose China's occupation and crimes in East Turkistan to the international community through news and discussion programs in Uyghur, Turkish, Arabic, and English languages, has been consistently targeted by Chinese hackers, with these attacks intensifying in recent periods.
In the past couple of weeks, Independence TV's websites in four languages have experienced various issues, including an inability to access the management platform, problems uploading images, and difficulties posting news. According to the security service provider company, Chinese hackers have recently launched intense attacks against Independence's websites.
Independence TV's websites have consistently been targets of Chinese hackers. For instance, in March 2021, due to Chinese hacker attacks, the websites were paralyzed for nearly a week. The company's security staff reported that the attacks on Independence TV's websites also affected other websites served by the same company.
In October 2024, among seven criminal suspects arrested for collecting and transmitting information about Uyghur refugees and organizations in Turkey to Chinese intelligence agencies, the defendant Sadiq Memeteziz was assigned the task of regularly reporting information about Independence TV.
China has been using various methods to restrict and disrupt Independence TV. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has repeatedly filed complaints with the Turkish government and Turkish courts, resulting in Independence TV's main website being shut down several times. In 2022, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson made defamatory statements about Independence TV. It was revealed that China had submitted multiple complaints to the Turkish government demanding restrictions on Independence TV.
