China is accelerating the expansion of various mines in East Turkistan and granting wholesale exploitation rights to Chinese companies. I held a meeting last week, on Friday, with Chinese mining companies in Urumqi.
According to the report of the "Xinjiang Newspaper" affiliated with the Chinese propaganda agency, the 2025 annual conference of Chinese mineral explorers will be held in Urumqi from June 12 to 14, and a parallel meeting will be held to present methods of granting mining rights in East Turkistan.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Erkin Toniyaz, the financial chairman of the so-called "Uyghur Self-Government Region", claimed that East Turkestan has high mineral resources and great hidden potential, so it is the main area of strategic work to achieve innovations in a new round of mineral exploration in China, and that the holding of this annual conference represents an invaluable opportunity for Chinese companies in the exploration and development of mineral resources in East Turkistan.
Officials from Chinese ministries and representatives of Chinese companies, and mining specialists participated in the meeting. In the meeting, the presentation of patterns of granting mining rights in East Turkistan to Chinese companies, the 162 project development. These projects include primary mineral resources such as oil, natural gas, coal, copper, gold and nickel.
In March of this year, China held a meeting to promote the legal rights to mining in East Turkistan, where the rights to develop more than 170 mines include rare metals such as copper, iron, gold and lithium. According to the data released by China, in 2024, 558 companies were granted ownership rights throughout East Turkistan to Chinese companies.
While China continues to exploit the wealth of East Turkistan, the people of East Turkistan, who are the real owners of these enormous natural resources, live in poverty. In addition, behind Chinese mining activities in East Turkistan is the crime of forced labor, as a new document published by the International Human Rights Organization this week confirms that the basis of mineral exploration and processing activities in East Turkistan is a mechanism of systematic forced labor targeting Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples.
