China forced Uyghurs to celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year

As part of its assimilation policy, China has once again this year forced Uyghur residents across East Turkistan to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, as it did in previous years.
While China has imposed various restrictions and obstacles on Uyghurs celebrating their religious and traditional holidays, it has forced them through different means to celebrate Chinese holidays.
According to the Tianshan website, on January 27, the Bayingolin Literature and Arts Association, in cooperation with the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee in Korla City, organized a theatrical evening to celebrate the Spring Festival under the slogan "Bringing Culture to Every Family and Celebrating Spring Festival Together" at the Korla City Cultural Palace for 2025.
Chinese holiday celebrations were mandatorily organized throughout East Turkistan, with the report citing some areas as examples. The Organization Department in Laika town of Hotan prefecture gathered Uyghurs in the village and forced them to hang lanterns, wear traditional Chinese clothing for celebration, chant festival slogans in the streets, and perform dragon, umbrella, and lion dances.
Several videos circulating on social media showed that Chinese village officials even forced men to perform the Chinese Yangge dance. Another set of videos posted on social media by Ms. Zamira Dawut showed a group of Uyghurs being forced to dress up as characters from Chinese mythology and Buddhist figures and parade in the streets.
The Uyghur people, who have beautifully celebrated their national holidays throughout history, are not only deprived today of celebrating their own holidays but are forced, due to Chinese threats and coercion, to celebrate Chinese holidays that completely contradict their beliefs and culture and to live with a Chinese appearance in all aspects.
China continues to forcefully implement its assimilation policy as part of the genocide in East Turkistan and severely punishes those who reject Chinese culture under the label of "extremism and separatism."
