China confiscates Uyghur farmers' land, homes, gives them to Chinese settlers for free

Last week, Chinese social media announced that some Chinese celebrities are moving to East Turkistan (which China occupies and calls "Xinjiang"), where houses with gardens and orchards are very cheap. The report shows a two-room house being built by a recently settled Chinese family. In our inquiries about this campaign, it was revealed that 500 acres of farmland was given to a Shanghai company for free.
In the social media video footage, a house with a garden appears in an area in East Turkistan. There is a beautiful building in this courtyard and a two-room house inside. This advertisement promoting permanent migration to East Turkistan, features a recently settled Chinese couple. The presentation makes it appear as if they had been living in this place for 10 years due to the furniture and readiness of the place.
We contacted Yarkand County to clarify the identity of the original owners of the houses and gardens mentioned above. One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said that in recent years, most family members have been thrown into prisons and camps, leaving some farmland and even some buildings abandoned. As a result, the authorities offered these lands for sale and filled their pockets on one hand; on the other hand, they provided major benefits to Chinese companies as a gift for their loyalty to the Chinese state.
For example, this citizen said that during the past three months, some crops were destroyed on 500 acres of cultivated land in Yarkand County Market, and buildings and protective walls around the cultivated lands began to collapse. The authorities began disbursing small amounts of compensation to farmers for these lands and properties. The vast majority of residents could not raise any voice against this practice for fear of being sent to "education" camps; a few people expressed their grievances to village officials about the small amount of compensation and the inconvenience caused by the newly granted housing units; as a result, an argument broke out between the two sides. At this time, when village officials tried to contact the police, the farmers' morale dropped and they returned to their homes.
The security director who received our phone call from the village where the incident occurred insisted that the land sale was fair and carried out according to law and order. The director also mentioned that in this process, and in order to silence the "complainant" farmers, relevant laws and regulations were posted one after another on the falling walls and buildings.
The citizen, who did not wish to be identified, also indicated that the 500-acre plot of land was granted to a construction contractor in Shanghai at a much lower than normal market price, or even for free.
The head of the Yarkand Land Department who received our call confirmed the accuracy of this information and said that the company did not make significant profits when restoring an archaeological site in Yarkand, and for the purpose of compensating for their losses, the 500 acres of land and housing were disbursed to them at a low price.
In our previous investigations, it became clear that after the mass arrest operation in 2017, the lands and homes of prisoners who died in prisons and camps and those who were sentenced to more than 15 years were sold to Chinese settlers at discounted prices. According to the information above, it is clear that the confiscation of lands and homes is not limited to those who received harsh sentences.
