China cancels the visit of the High Representative of the European Union to Beijing

Brussels describes China as a "partner, and systemic competitor" at the same time and takes a "multifaceted" stance towards Beijing.

The Chinese government has canceled the visit of EU High Representative for Foreign Relations and Security Policy Josep Borrell to Beijing scheduled for July 10.

European Commission spokeswoman Nabila Mesrali said China had told them that Borrell's visit "will not take place on July 10 and that other alternatives should be considered."

Borrell was scheduled to travel to China on July 10 to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Chen Gang and other officials.

He will discuss many topics

According to European diplomat Jorge Toledo, European and Chinese diplomats will discuss issues such as trade, human rights and China's position on the war in Ukraine.

"Unfortunately, we informed our Chinese interlocutors that the envisaged dates for next week are no longer possible and that we need to look for alternatives," Masrali said in a statement.

“It is up to China to explain the reasons for this. We will adapt and set a new date together,” Masrali said. He used the expression.

China did not provide any justification for the reason for canceling Borrell's visit.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not issued a clear statement on this issue.

"Beijing attaches great importance to Sino-European relations and keeps exchanging views with Europe at all levels and from different angles," said ministry spokesman Wang Wenping at a press conference in Beijing. We welcome High Representative Borrell's visit to China at the earliest time that both sides deem appropriate. We are ready to exchange views with the European side," he explained.

"We're not too naive to notice."

At a meeting of EU countries last week, a decision was made on the bloc's strategy to obtain important materials from sources other than China.

China has been acting as a diplomatic courtesy to undermine the international order over the past few months. Reject, delay, or cancel interview requests from the United States and its allies. It almost makes Western diplomats crawl after him.
