China and India reconciled

China and India agreed on "maintaining peace and tranquility" after a new round of talks to resolve tensions in the disputed border regions in the Himalayas.
In the joint statement released by the parties after the 19th meeting at the level of corps commanders to reduce border tensions between the armies of the two countries, it was stated that "the remaining problems in the western sector of the De facto Control Line (LAC) were agreed to be resolved immediately". "The two sides have agreed to maintain peace and tranquility in the border regions until then," the statement said.
The 19th round of talks was held on the Indian side of the Chushul border region on 14-15 August to reduce the tension in the border regions that were the subject of conflict between the two countries. As a result of 18 rounds of talks held since 2020, the parties agreed to mutually withdraw troops from 3 regions that caused tension. In the 18th round of talks in April, an agreement could not be reached on the withdrawal from the Depsan Plateau and the Demçok region.
CHINA-INDIA BORDER DISPUTE
The uncertain border line between China and India, surrounded by the Himalayan Mountains, causes sovereignty disputes between countries. Beijing claims 90,000 square kilometers of land in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, which it calls "Southern Tibet", while New Delhi argues that 38 thousand square kilometers, including the Aksay-Chinese plateau, are occupied by China.
