According to a January 6 report from Chinese security organs, Chinese authorities have launched two types of strike operations in East Turkistan under the name of "Winter Operation" during the New Year and Chinese Spring Festival period. One is the so-called "national security education propaganda" throughout East Turkistan, and the other is the establishment of a "Pomegranate Page" section focused on "national security education" in the "Xinjiang Daily" newspaper starting January 10th.
According to the report, China claims the purpose of establishing this page is to strengthen national security propaganda throughout society, increase public understanding of national security work, and enhance citizen participation in this regard.
The "Pomegranate Page" propaganda established by China will be distributed through internal and external media, party and government organs, businesses and organizations, and news outlets.
This new propaganda campaign was launched simultaneously with the "Winter Operation," and observers are concerned about increasing pressure on the people of East Turkistan. In particular, China's ongoing targeted cleanup and strike operations against what they call "complex security areas" are further intensifying international concerns.
