German official: China is a threat to our security

Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, warned the German government about China: "China is threatening our security."
According to the French International News on April 22, after German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz visited China last week, Friedrich Merz, leader of the German opposition Christian Democratic Union, accused China of being directly responsible for many wars and crises in the world.
Friedrich Merz said: “China has become more and more repressive internally and aggressive externally. So China is an increasing threat to our security. "Russia's invasion of Ukraine and North Korea's current status were supported by China."
He believes that China's political influence on foreign companies in the past 30 years is not as big as it is now. Currently, German companies are increasingly influenced by China, not openly, but through suppression. At the same time, China has taken an increasingly aggressive path externally, openly threatening Taiwan, and massively expanding its military capabilities in the South China Sea and the East China Sea. While China is still economically important for German companies, Friedrich Merz said he hopes to reduce dependence on China and that every German company should consider the risks when investing in China.
He added: "In particular, the country should also clearly define the investment and trade framework for strategic and important resources and commodities. "We should not fall back into a dangerous state of dependence, as we were dependent on Russian gas."
