The Tibetan government-in-exile has confirmed that it has held secret talks with China

A senior official of the Tibetan government-in-exile has officially confirmed that his government is in secret talks with China.
According to the Indian TV channel "WION", a key official of the Tibetan government in exile, Penpa Tsering, confirmed that China and the exiled government have been in secret talks for more than a year.
Penpa Tsering emphasized this point in the news of France Internationale on April 26. "We need to find a solution through the middle path policy proposed by the Dalai Lama, supported by the majority of Tibetans, and approved by the Tibetan Parliament in exile." It is reported that the middle path proposed by the Dalai Lama is to demand true autonomy for Tibet within the framework of China's political system.
But Penpa Tsering said his hopes for talks were dim: "We are not going to meet them. But we are not completely optimistic about this. This reflects the uncertainty of negotiations with China.
According to reports, the history of direct talks between the two sides dates back to 2002, and a total of nine talks were held until 2010. In 2008, the Tibetan government-in-exile requested an autonomous system from China, but the proposal was rejected by China.
Minister of the Tibetan government in exile, Norzin Dolma, confirmed the existence of secret communication channels: "It is true that there are communication channels and activities that secretly meet with China. But I don't know how much we can expect from the substantial and concrete results of these activities.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin responded to the question on April 26, saying that the Tibetan government-in-exile is an illegal and separatist organization. A few people around him claimed that he was only discussing his personal future.
