The Canadian government has banned the Chinese social media platform TikTok due to security concerns.
According to the French International News, on November 6, the Canadian Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry, Francois Philippe Champagne, made a statement about this, saying that the app poses a security risk to Canada and therefore announced that TikTok's business activities in Canada have been banned and that the TikTok platform in Toronto and Vancouver has been banned. The company has announced that its offices will be closed.
He said that Canadian citizens can continue to use the TikTok app, but the Canadian branch of the TikTok company will be disbanded and commercial activities will not be allowed.
Due to allegations and concerns about the TikTok app providing personal information to China, the TikTok app has been completely or partially banned in some countries, such as the United States, Turkey, India, Pakistan, and Kyrgyzstan, so far. China and TikTok's parent company have denied the allegations.
However, the TikTok app has been blocking the spread of content related to the genocide in East Turkistan. Last month, a video of Uyghur girl Nafisa Oyts strongly disproving the pro-Chinese politician Doug Perinik in Turkey and exposing the Chinese genocide was deleted from the TikTok platform.
