Biden meets with Vietnamese leader to counter Chinese and Russian influence

US President Joe Biden met with Vietnamese leader Su Linh to discuss countering the influence of China and Russia.
According to Voice of America, Biden had a conversation with President Su Linh, Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam, on September 25. The talks are aimed at countering its ties to China and Russia by deepening ties with Vietnam, a manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia.
Su Lin, who visited the United States for the first time as a leader, met with Biden during the UN conference in New York. A senior US official said the two sides discussed how to accelerate the strategic cooperation achieved last year.
In the meeting, Su Lin praised Biden's historic contribution to strengthening US-Vietnam bilateral relations. During the meeting, Biden said that since the two countries' relations reached a new level last year, the two sides have invested a lot in semiconductors and supply chains, and started unprecedented cooperation in the field of cyber security.
Biden also emphasized that they are on the same page in their commitment to freedom of maritime navigation and the rule of law, and in his speech he alluded to the maritime dispute in the region involving China.
Vietnam News Agency reported that Su Lin told Biden that Vietnam has entered a new era of development and is a friendly and reliable partner.
