US Republican congressmen urged the Biden administration to stand up against the Chinese regime's human rights abuses and strongly opposed China's request to lift sanctions against China for its crimes in East Turkistan.
US House of Representatives Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, Foreign Affairs Committee Indo-Pacific Relations Committee Chairman Young Kim and the Chairman of the Committee on Strategic Competition between the USA and China Mike Gallagher, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and He sent a letter to Commerce Minister Gina Raimondo expressing their concern at the Chinese Communist Party's request from the United States to lift sanctions against China for China's crimes in East Turkistan.
"We must not compromise on the commutation of sentences that violate our fundamental human rights values ​​regarding the punishment of human rights violations, believing in the empty promises of the Chinese Communist Party," the congressmen said in the letter.
Members also said that if the US government did this, it would be a rejection of President Biden's statement that "human rights will become the center of our foreign policy."
"We do not support the lifting of export controls or sanctions as a condition of cooperation with China. We are currently making laws to ensure that the executive branch does not bypass the parliamentary review process," the letter said.
