At media summit, China blasts Western coverage of Uyghurs

China hosted the 6th World Media Summit in East Turkistan (Xinjiang), focusing on AI in media but also using the platform to counter Western reports about Uyghur oppression.
Over 500 participants from 200+ media outlets attended, including executives from Reuters and AP.
Chinese officials, including Xinjiang's Communist Party secretary Ma Xingrui, rejected accusations of genocide and forced labor, calling them "fabricated lies."
Ma claimed Xinjiang has a stable society and prosperous economy, with all ethnic groups living peacefully.
Critics argue China is amplifying its own narrative about Uyghurs' well-being despite contrary evidence.
The summit also discussed harnessing AI for media purposes, which some see as a potential tool for spreading China's narratives.
Some attendees supported China's stance, claiming Western propaganda about East Turkistan (Xinjiang) is false based on their observations.
China exploited this event to control the narrative about ُEast Turkistan and counter international criticism of its policies towards Uyghurs.
